Conzumel

City overview

Cozumel is a Caribbean island off the coast of Quintana Roo, reached by a short ferry from Playa del Carmen or by direct flights into its own international airport. It is best known for the Mesoamerican reef that runs along its western shore, which makes it one of the world's great diving and snorkelling destinations, and for a compact walkable town, San Miguel, where most visitors stay. For kosher travellers the island is unusually well served for its size: Chabad of Cozumel sits in the centre of San Miguel and anchors a cluster of kosher restaurants, a kosher grocery and a caterer, nearly all within a few minutes' walk of one another.

Eruv

No

There is no eruv in Cozumel. Chabad of Cozumel states this plainly on its own Shabbat and visitor information pages, so plan on carrying nothing outside on Shabbat. In practice this makes a hotel or apartment within walking distance of the Chabad House in central San Miguel the most comfortable choice, and several such properties sit within one to ten minutes' walk.
