United States
City overview
Los Angeles pairs beaches, mountains and Hollywood with one of the deepest kosher infrastructures in the United States. It is home to the country's second-largest Jewish community, around 565,000 people. Orthodox life centres on three neighbourhoods: Pico-Robertson on the Westside, Hancock Park and La Brea in the middle of the city, and Valley Village and North Hollywood in the San Fernando Valley. Each has its own cluster of shuls, kosher restaurants and markets within walking distance, and dozens of Chabad houses serve visitors from Santa Monica to Encino.
Los Angeles has three Orthodox community eruvin. The LA Community Eruv, certified by the Rabbinical Council of California, covers the central city between the 10 Freeway, Western Avenue, Santa Monica Boulevard, Cahuenga Boulevard, the 101 and the 405, taking in Pico-Robertson, Beverly Hills, Century City, Hancock Park, La Brea and Fairfax; check its weekly status on the hotline 877-378-8463, at laeruv.com, or by texting "firstname lastname ERUV" on WhatsApp to 424-772-3499. The Valley Eruv, under Rabbi Eliezer Eidlitz, covers parts of North Hollywood, Valley Village and Sherman Oaks, with its status posted at valleyeruv.org. The Rosana Miller (West Valley) Eruv covers parts of Encino and Tarzana, with its status posted at oureruv.com. Santa Monica, Venice and Downtown Los Angeles have no eruv.
