City overview
San Francisco's Orthodox community is spread across several neighbourhoods, so where you stay shapes what you can reach on Shabbat. Chabad of San Francisco holds services at 873 Sutter Street, with pre-booked Shabbat meals. Richmond Torah Center - Chabad is at 423 10th Avenue in the Richmond District, and the Schneerson Center is at 2655 Balboa Street. Chabad centres also serve Cole Valley, Noe Valley and West Portal.

Wave Organ
San Francisco, CA
The Wave Organ is a wave-activated acoustic sculpture created by the Exploratorium on a jetty that forms a boat harbour on San Francisco Bay. Conceived by Peter Richards and installed with sculptor and master stonemason George Gonzalez, it was completed in 1986 and uses 25 PVC and concrete pipes set at different heights, so waves striking the pipe ends produce subtle, ever-changing sounds. The jetty itself is built of carved granite and marble salvaged from a demolished cemetery, and the music is richest when the tides and weather stir the water.
Tips
The Wave Organ sounds best at high tide.
